Who are we?
What is a vascular surgeon?
Vascular surgeons are subspecialists who are highly trained to treat diseases involving the vascular system- the blood vessels in the body. Arteries are blood vessels that bring blood from the heart to your organs and extremites, and when atherosclerosis, or build-up of plaque occurs over time due to risk factors, this could obstruct circulation which can lead to complications. This is where a vascular surgeon can help by optimizing medicines, recommending lifestyle changes, and performing surgeries when appropriate to help with those conditions. The surgery will depend on the degree and severity of occlusion.
Vascular surgeons also provide care to patients regarding aneurysms, dialysis access needs, varicose veins, stroke prevention, diabetic wounds and wound care, and thoracic outlet syndrome.
